An Ecumenical Christian Transitional Housing Program for Homeless Women and Their Children

Daughters of Zelophehad
Offering transitional housing, spiritual formation and support, as well as job and life skills training. Helping to empower homeless women to move from poverty to economic self-sufficiency, from psychological and financial dependency to strength, independence and responsibility. A bridge ministry between church and community.

Church World Service
Providing the right “tools” to meet immediate and long-term needs of people in crisis: from blankets, tents, and emergency supplies in the wake of disaster to material assistance, education and training, and small-enterprise loans as part of sustainable development programs.

Distributes food through a large network of partner agencies, which includes over 100 child-care providers serving needy children.

Hanover ARC
The Hanover Arc, Inc. is an organization of and for people with mental retardation their families and young children with developmental delays. It is devoted to promoting and improving supports and services for people with disabilities and their families.

Mechanicsville Church Emergency Fund
A consortium of local churches which stocks various pantries with food, clothing, medicine, and household items to meet the needs of those in the Mechanicsville area in times of crisis.

Good News Jail & Prison Ministry
Providing spiritually mature, equipped, and motivated men and women to serve as Christian chaplains in correctional facilities nationally and internationally.

Coal Pit Learning Center
The Coal Pit Learning Center is a not-profit organization providing a free preschool program for low income three, four and five year olds who otherwise would not receive the benefits of preschool experience. The center provides educational, nutritional and emotional support in a Christian atmosphere, and imparts the social and academic skills essential for success when the children enter the public school system. It also identifies those children who will need special services upon entering the public schools.

Refugee Resettlement (Virginia Council of Churches)
Refugees arrive in Virginia with very little to get them started, often only their skills and a handful of keepsakes. Local churches can help refugees in the difficult process of beginning over again in a new land.
